Sindhuli College of Hotel Management, a leading educational institution in Sindhuli, will observe a holiday for the Dashain festival starting on October 6, 2024, and reopen on November 10, 2024. Dashain, also known as Bada Dashain or Vijaya Dashami in Sanskrit, is one of the most important Hindu festivals celebrated widely across Nepal and in Indian states like Sikkim, West Bengal, and Assam, as well as regions in South India and Sri Lanka. It is a time for families to come together, honor the victory of good over evil, and offer blessings.

Following Dashain, the five-day Tihar festival (also referred to as Diwali) is celebrated in Nepal. Tihar is marked by the worship of animals such as crows, dogs, and cows and the celebration of Laxmi Puja, which honors the goddess of wealth. This festival is also significant in the Gorkha regions of Sikkim and Gorkhaland, where the local Gorkha community partakes in the festivities.

In addition, during this festive period, Chhath Puja is celebrated, primarily to honor Surya, the sun god. According to Hindu mythology, Mata Aditi gave birth to Surya on the sixth day of the month of Kartika. Therefore, Surya is also called Aditya, and Chhath Puja is considered his birth anniversary. The entire month of Kartika holds immense religious significance.

The college extends its warm wishes for Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath Puja to all and will resume normal operations on November 10, 2024.
